Define what is Health literacy?
The degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain then process and understand basic information and services to make appropriate health decisions
What should we remember about older adult patients?
Remember the slow cognitive functions
short term memory
decreased concentration
decreased vision hearing and senses
How can we communicate with Limited or non-english speaking patients?
get a translator that is NOT family member
use resources in patients language, so that they can understand their own treatment
