Centralized and Decentralized Organization
Centralized- a structure in which authority is concentrated at the top & very little decision-making authority is delegated to lower levels
Decentralized- when decision-making authority is delegated as far down the chain of command as possible
{remember these are systems for businesses as a whole, narrow/wide span management is for individual managers

The number of levels in the organization. (Flat=fewer, Narrow=more)

Multi-divisional
Matrix
Line structure: direct lines of authority like 7/11
Line&Staff: traditional line relationship between supervisors and subordinates; specialized manager-called staff managers- are available to assist line managers.
Multi-divisional: organizes departments into larger groups called divisions.
Matrix Structure: sets up teams that have members from different departments, thereby creating 2+ intersecting lines of authority (for projects)
Groups, Teams, Committees, Task Forces, Project Teams, quality assurance teams, Product-development team, self-directed work team
Commmitees- long term
Project teams- complete control of a specific work project
Types of Formal Communication
Upward, downward, horizontal, diagonal
