Origin of patriarchy
1) Women constantly were having to be pregnant and raising children. Life expectancy was much lower.
2) reward theory. Women are trained to be submissive pretty for the males coming back from being warriors
3) private property theory.
Birth control
Empowered women. Sexually as well as having power over their lives to not be pregnant all the time and do other things. Also causes less cervical cancer because it mimics being pregnant all the time. Allows for time to become educated.
Gender inequality in education
65% of 1 billion illiterate in the world are female. And that number is growing. Women are more poor than men, so they tend to be more illiterate. Women earn more degrees, but in gender-ised professions and earn less pay.
The key to equality
Is education, 200 years ago a woman wrote that the key to women becoming equal was through education.
Deadly effects of sexism
Men get Better care after surgery. Their chest pain concerns are taken more seriously.
Workplace gender relations
Women earning a higher wage are subject to double day. Pay gap. As education increases, the gap decreases, but still exists.
