Chapter 7 and 8 Flashcards
Rate
primary measure used to describe the frequency of state of health in specific group of people in a given amount of time
incidence rate
rate at which a new event occurs over a specified period of time
crude rate
total of number of events or courts, divided by the mid-year total population of the selected geography and multiple by a constant
adjusted rate
rate are rates that would have existed if the population under study the same age distribution as the standard population
prevalence rate
the total number of cases of a disease existing in a population divided by the total population.
relative risk ratio
Incidence rate for groups exposed to a certain risk factor compared to incidence rate for people who are not exposed.
sensitivity
Ability of the test to identify correctly people who have a specific health problem or the probability of testing positive if the health problem is truly present.
specificity
Ability of the test to identify correctly people who DO NOT have the specific health problem or the probability of testing negative if the health problem is truly absent.
descriptive research
Study in which information is collected to characterize and summarize a health issue.
analytical research
Study during which comparison between two or more groups determine the role of various risk factors in causing the health issue.
T/F: interventional/experimental studies are common in community health
