Bought his camera from a pawn shop. Worked for Life Magazine. Quit from office of war information due to not being allowed to photo black pilots. Documented poverty in Rio de Janero, saved a boys life from photo of dying boy. Did fashion photography. Photo’d Malcomn X. 1st Af. Am. Director for major motion picture company. Dir. Shaft.

Photo’d migrant workers and Japanese in relocation camps. Most famous photo: Migrant Mother. Used Twin Lens Reflex. Had polio. Worked for Life Magazine. The movie “Grapes of Wrath” modeled after her work.
