What are vital signs at birth? (pulse rate and respiratory)
At birth, a pulse rate of 90 to 180 beats/min and a respiratory rate of 30 to 60 breaths/min are considered normal.
At age 1 what does the respiratory rate slow down too?
20 to 30 breaths/min
What allows the head to be molded?
A neonate’s fontanelles allow the head to be molded. They eventually fuse to form the skull.
When does the posterior fontanelle begin to fuse?
By the third month of life.
When does the anterior fontanelle fuse?
Between 9 and 18 months of age
What are characteristics of a 9 month old?
Pulls up to stand; places object in mouth to explore.
What are characteristics of a 12 month old?
Knows his or her name; walks
When does separation anxiety occur ?
Peaks between 10 and 18 months and involves clingy behavior and fear of unfamiliar places and people
In Preschoolers (ages 3 to 6) what is the pulse rate and respiratory rate?
Pulse rate is 80 to 140 beats/min.
Respiratory rate is 20 to 25 breaths/min.
What age is an early adult?
19 to 40 years.
What are psycho-social changes in early adults?
Work, Family, Stress. At this point adults strive to create a place for themselves in the world.
How old are Middle Aged Adults?
41-60 years.
What percentage of people older than 65 have atherosclerotic disease?
60%; this can lead to decreased blood supply to the organs of the body.
What happens when the heart muscle weakens?
Increased heart rate can actually cause damage to the heart.
By age 75, the vital capacity may amount to what percentage of a young adults?
50%
