What is the compression rate an depth when performing CPR?
30 compressions with a depth of 2 - 2.4 inches. In adults at a rate of 100-120 per min.
What causes cardiac arrest in children usually?
Respiratory arrest
How do you position the airway?
Head tilt chin lift; or jaw thrust if a spinal injury is suspected.
How often do you give ventilations?
1 breath every 5 to 6 seconds ( 10/12 every min)
What do pateints have that underwent a layrngectomy?
Stoma, at the midline of the neck. Stoma is an opneing that connects the trachea directly to the skin.
What do you do is MASSIVE gastric distention occurs?
Contact medical control, then check airway again and reposition the patient and avoid giving forceful breaths.
Whats your first action when witnessing a child suddenly collapse ?
First confirm the child is in cardiac arrest, if you are alone then leave to call 9-1-1 and get an AED. If you’re not alone have someone call 911 get an AED and you begin CPR.
What does STOP in CPR mean ?
S- patient starts breathing
T- Transfered care
O- Out of Strength
P- Physician who is present assumes responsbility.
What maneuver to remove Foreign body airway obstruction do you use on a patient in advanced stages of pregnancy and pateints that have obesity?
Chest Thrusts.
How do you remove a foreign body airway obstruction in an infant?
Hold infant face down supporting jaw and face with your hand. Deliever 5 back slaps between shoulder blades. Then provide 5 quick chest thrusts. Check airway removie obstruction if possible.
What is an opioid?
Narcotic drug when taken in excess, depress the central nervous system and causes respiratory arrest follow by cardiac arrest.
What is the best treatment for a patient who has OD? (Many patients that OD have a pulse, very slow but are not breathing)
BVM ventilation is the most critical treatment, followed by adminstriation of naloxone if its avaialble
