The Early Republic
Haitain Revolution (1791-1804)
People of Color
- Inspiried ideas of resistance as it demonstrated the lie of Black inferiority and potential for revolt, terrifying Americans
- Free ppl of color took it as a call of abolition and rights of citizenship denied in the U.S.
White PPL
- Used violence of this revolution to reinforce white supremacy and pro-slavery views by limiting social and political lives of ppl of color
Manumission
- Assisted in increasing the pop of free Black ppl in the early 19th century
Gabriel’s Rebellion
Gabriel and a bunch of other enslaved men attacking Richmond in Virginia
Effect: Virginia restricted the rights of Black ppl, outlawing edu, restricting movement, and requiring free Blacks to leave within 12 months or be enslaved again
Democratic Republican Party
Rose to power on the promise to expand voting and promote a more direct link between political leaders and the electorate

Republican Motherhood
A political idea that the early American belief that women were essential in nurturing the principles of liberty in the citzenry. Raising the next generation.
- Pass important values of independence and virtue to children, ensuring that each generation would cherish the values of the American Revolution, becoming politicized

Tecumseh
One of the two leaders of the Shawnee that tried to unify Native groups in cultural, economic, and military resistance, with mixed success to go against the colonists
- Died in the War of 1812 (increased nationalism)

Tenskwatawa
The brother of Tecumseh and, known as the prophet
- articulated beliefs and ideas similar to their 18th predecessors
- Had a dream that the Natives would purge the whites and have native supremacy again
