Whats a Project?
A project is activities with a start and end point, to create a product, or achieve an end result.
What is project management? (!!)
It’s accomplishing projects using skills, techniques, and processes like:
-initiation
-planning
-execution
-controlling
-closing
What are 3 benefits to prioritizing project management? (!!)
-Identifying the responsibility for each project member.
-Simplifying project monitoring by creating project milestones.
-Ability to identify problems early.
When is a project deemed as a success? Name 3: (!!)
-Completed on time.
-Completed on Budget.
-Meets all specifications.
What’s “Projectitis”?
When more time is spent planning and documenting than actually accomplishing meaningful work.
How can you create a project plan?
By using a planning tool, like work breakdown structure (WBS).
What’s The work breakdown structure (WBS)?
It is a project planning tool, where the project plan is broken down into tasks.
What are the 4 minimum attributes that should be determined for each task?
(!!)
-The work (The activities and deliverables).
-The effort required.
-The skills needed.
-The interdependencies.
What are some other attributes that can be added? Name 3:
-Capital Expense.
-Non-capital Expense.
-Start and end dates.
Explain what network scheduling is:
Sequencing tasks in a project plan to help achieve time and cost goals
What is “PERT”?
It is a network dependency technique that calculates the time it takes to finish a project (Critical Path).
What 3 things you should know about an activity to diagram it in PERT?
-How long the activity will take.
-What comes before it.
-What comes After it.
Name 3 PERT Advantages?
-Makes it easier to plan projects.
-Presents info in a way that anyone can understand.
-Requires minimal training.
Name 3 PERT Disadvantages:
-Diagrams can become awkward in very large organizations.
-Diagrams can become expensive to mainain.
-Can be hard to accurately place a “time to complete” on some tasks.
What is a Gantt Chart?
A project management tool, which are simple bar charts that are easy to design and understand.
It provides the timeline on the horizontal axis of the chart.
