Chapter 7 Flashcards
Fertilization
When the sperm meets the egg, fertilization occurs and a new life begins
Sperm
Male sex cell
Heredity
The study of how traits are passed one generation to another
Trait
Specific characteristics that make us are known as traits
Dominant
The dominant trait overshadows the recessive trait therefore if you have one or more dominant allele you will show the dominant trait if you have no dominant alleles you will show the recessive trait
Genotype
Genotypes are used to show a trait. in a genotype there is two alleles
Homozygous
Homozygous is when two alleles are the same either dominant or recessive if both of them are dominant then it is homozygous dominant if they are both recessive then it is homozygous recessive
Punnett square
Punnett squares are used to help determine the probability of the possible outcomes for a trait that would result from two parents
Meiosis
Doubles chromosomes in sex cell
Egg
Female sex cell
Genetics
Study of genes
Gene
codes for different traits
Allele
A letter either recessive or dominant to represent a trait
Recessive
A allele that is overshadowed by the dominant
Phenotype
Your trait name
Ex. freckles
