o Thickens feather placode
o Piece grows up verticallt to become feather germ
 Sinks down into dermis to form pit
o Blood vessel will come in to attach to pit
o Blood vessel causes dermis to degenerate, hollow term of ectoderm
o Ectoderm becomes sheath, will eventually form barbs and rachis
