What are the requirements that a SALT intervention must have?
A
- Must not cause harm.
- Must be conducted by an appropriately qualified clinician.
- Must be demonstrable improvement.
- Client must be convinced that it is a rational approach.
- Client must understand that the intervention must start and terminate.

What must a SALT goal be like?
A
- Measurable/attainable e.g. improve quality of life.
Must not be unattainable e.g. motor neuron disease will not fully restore speech but may consider alternative communication system. - Economic factor - must be cost-effective re. client benefits.
*Can’t measure academic and social factors.

Q
What are the issues re. SALT interventions?
A
Little research in long-term studies.
Small number of subjects and costly.
Subjects often lost due to relocation (10-20 years).
Factors e.g. unemployment and loss of social life may not always be directly related to SALT.
