Chapter 6 - Hydraulic System Flashcards
How many hydraulic systems are there?
3
What are the 3 hydraulic systems used for?
No. 1 & No.2 - Flying Controls
No.3 - Everything else
What does the No.3 Hydraulic system provide hydraulics for? (8)
Rescue Hoist Rotor Brake Main + Nose Landing gear ACSR Nose Wheel Steering Parking Brakes Ramp Main Brakes
What does IHPS stand for?
Integrated Hydraulics Power Supply
What major components does the IHPS store?
Reservoir Pressure & Temperature Sensors HP Hydraulics Pump Heat Exchanger Filters Magnetic Plugs & Chip Detectors
What does the CSOV do?
Allows for No.3 hydraulics system pressure to be directed to the No.1 & No.2 system in the event of a failure
What is the Auxiliary Reservoir used for?
For additional hydraulic fluid storage, enough to charge the emergency accumulator and aid in the services of the No.3 system
What is the Auxiliary Pump used for?
Used for when No.3 IHPS is not operating, draws hydraulic fluid from the reservoir and supplies it to the No.3 system services
What type of pump is the Auxiliary Pump?
Electric driven hydraulic pump
What does the hydraulic manifold do?
Controls the hydraulic pressure to the rotor brake system and to the emergency accumulator
Directs the hydraulic fluid to different services
What is the emergency accumulator?
Provides a store of hydraulic pressure
What is the emergency accumulator used for?
Emergency Blow down
OR
20 applications to the parking brake system
Are the IHPS’s rinterchangable?
Yes
What is the No.1 IHPS attached to?
MRGB
What is the No.2 and No.3 IHPS attached to?
AGB
What are the IHPS & Auxiliary reservoir protected with?
Removable silver silicon blanket
What are the 4 level switches for IHPS?
Full
Refill
Alert
Low
What does the IHPS level test button carry out a test on?
MIN and Low-level switches only
What are the functions of the pressure relief and bleed valves?
Operate automatically in normal conditions and relieve hydraulic pressure in the reservoir
Prevent reservoir from being damaged due to excessive pressure
Provide a means of bleeding hydraulic fluid from the reservoir during maintenance
What does the blocking valve do?
Prevents hydraulic fluid from leaving the IHPS as the IHPS pump cannot be switched off
How is the blocking valve operated?
From the cockpit via the Hydraulics control panel
When filling the No.3 IHPS, what sight glass must you take the reading FULL from?
Auxiliary Reservoir
What is the Tail Shut Off Valve?
In the event of a major leak in the tail rotor servo actuator hydraulic supply lines, No.2 IHPS TSOV prevents a loss of hydraulic fluid from the No.2 IHPS
What are ripple eliminators?
Components in the rear fuselage that ensure smooth transmission of hydraulic fluid by dampening out fluctuations to the tail servo
What must be done to ensure the return of hydraulic fluid to ground servicing equipment during maintenance?
Quick release coupling must be disconnected on the IHPS
What action must be taken before carrying out maintenance/functionals on a hydraulic system?
Ensure pressure has been dissipated via the release valve on the emergency accumulator
