What is the difference between ethics and morals
Ethics can be defined in two ways:
As an area of research, it is the study of moral obligations and the process of determining and acting upon decisions of right and wrong.
Socially, it represents the socially constructed guidelines for correct behavior.
Morals, on the other hand, are an individual’s determination of what is right or wrong and are influenced by that individual’s values.

What are Reasons for Ethical Differences?
Individual level of greed, gluttony, and avarice. (People seek to maximize personal returns.)
Sense of entitlement:
Situation: particularly the organizational culture.
Person’s Character:
Steven Levitt (University of Chicago and top economist in the world under 40 prize winner) has conducted substantial research on the role of personal incentives in behavior. His findings demonstrate fairly convincingly that personal incentives (typically extrinsic) are the strongest predictor of behavior.

A person is primarily concerned with receiving rewards and avoiding punishment.

People learn to conform to expectations of good behavior as defined by key people in their social environment and societal norms.
What is the post conventional level of Moral Development?
Guided by an internalized set of universal principles that may even transcend the laws of a particular society.
What is the ethical mind?
A point of view that helps the individual aspire to good work that matters to colleagues, companies, and society.

What is Social Responsibility?
Definition: Having obligation to society beyond the company’s economic obligations to owners or stockholders and beyond those prescribed by law or contract.

Provide strategic direction that establishes an ethical and social responsibility tone for the organization.
Create a pleasant workplace.
Help build a sustainable environment.

Establish written codes of ethical conduct.
Provide training on ethics and social responsibility.
Place company interests ahead of personal interests.
