Chapter 6- Cell division Flashcards
what are the phases of the cell cycle?
- interphase
*mitotic phase—> Mitosis
Cytokinesis
What happenes during interphase?
- DNA is replicated and checked for errors
*protein synthesis occurs in cytoplasma
*mitochondria/cytoplasm grow and divide
*cell continues regulary- normal metabolic process
What are the stages of interphase?
G1- Growth: proteins synthesied, organelles replicate
S- DNA is replicated in the nucleus
G2- Growth 2: cell continues to increase in size, energy sotres increase
What happens to the cell in mitosis?
Nuclues divides
What happens to the cells in cytokinesis?
cytoplasm divides, two cells and produced
What is G0?
When the cell leaves the cycle
what are the 3 check points in the cell cycle?
G1 checkpoint, G2 checkpoint and spindle assembly point
What is the G1 checkpoint?
At end of G1, checks for cell size, nutrients, growth factors and DNA
damage
If failed cell enters G0
What is the G2 checkpoint?
At end of G2, checks for cell size, DNA replicaton and DNA damage
What is the spindle fibre assembly checkpoint?
At point in mitosis where all spindle fibres should be attcahed to chromosomes and allinged. checks all fibres are attached
What are the stages of mitosis?
Prophase,metaphase, anaphase, telophase
