Chapter 6 CELL CYCLE Flashcards
Cell Cycle
an ordered series of events involving cell growth and cell division that produces two new daughter cells
Two Major Phases of Cell Cycle
Interphase and Mitotic Phase
Interphase
Cell Grows and DNA is replicated
Mitotic Phase
Replicated DNA and cytoplasmic contents are separated and cell divides (Division)
3 Stages of interphase
G1, S, and G2.
First stage of interphase
G1 Phase (First Gap)
G1 Phase (Interphase)
(First Gap) Accumulates building blocks of chromosomal DNA, proteins and energy
S Phase (Interphase) Synthesis Phase
DNA replication results in two identical copies of each chromosome
(SISTER CHROMATIDS)
Centrosome Duplicated
Will give rise to Mitotic spindle
Centrioles (Centrosome Rods)
Organize cell division (not present in plants or fungi)
