Chapter 6 Flashcards
What is an angle?
Angle, measured in radians, is equal to the arc length divided by the radius
What is angular velocity?
Angular velocity is the rate of change of an angle
What is linear velocity?
Linear velocity is the speed of the particle in a direction perpendicular to the radius at that point
What is periodic time?
Periodic time is the time taken for one complete revolution, cycle or oscillation
What is centripetal acceleration?
Centripetal acceleration is the acceleration of an object travelling in uniform acceleration; it is directed towards the centre of the circle
What is centripetal force?
Centripetal force is the force required to maintain uniform circular motion; it is directed towards the centre of the circle
State Keplar’s Third Law
The square of the periodic time of a satellite’s orbit around a planet is proportional to the cube of the radius of the orbit (including the radius of the planet) and inversely proportional to the mass of the planet.
