Chapter 12 Flashcards
What is light?
Light is a form of energy that travels by electromagnetic waves
What is reflection of light?
Reflection of light is the bouncing of light off an object
What is diffuse reflection?
Diffuse reflection occurs when light is reflected in all directions from a rough surface
What is regular reflection?
Regular reflection occurs when light reflects off the surface of a smooth object - light is all reflected in one direction
What is an incident ray?
An incident Ray is the ray of light falling onto the mirror (from an object or light source)
What is a normal?
A normal at the point of incidence is an imaginary line radiating perpendicularly from the mirror at the point where the incident ray strikes the mirror
What is a reflected ray?
A reflected ray is the ray of light bouncing off the mirror
What is the angle of incidence?
The angle of incidence is the angle between the normal and incident ray
What is the angle of reflection?
The angle of reflection is the angle between the normal and reflected ray
What is an object?
An object is what the rays of light have come from directly prior to striking the mirror
What is an image?
An image is the location from which the rays of light appear to be coming from
What is the object distance
The object distance is the distance between the mirror and the object
What is the image distance?
The image distance is the distance between mirror and image
What is parallax?
Parallax is the apparent movement of one object relative to another due to the motion of the observer
What is a magnified image?
An image is magnified if it’s height is greater than that of the object
