Chapter 6 Flashcards
What happens
Animals work like slaves
Windmill causes difficulties
Announces trading with farms
Windmill destroyed during a storm and blamed on snowball
Why does he blame snowball
Protects his own reputation and motivate the animals to work harder than ever, authority could have been potentially threatened so attributing the destruction to snowball renders him immune criticism, uses snowball to instil fear into the animal populace, this tactic parallels their revolution blaming one single enemy motivated their revolution
What does Orwell explain when snowball gets the blame
Any given political regime will gather support by selecting such adversary, true or false , this then organises the popular support against the foe, developing a society around fear of an unseen enemy allows Napoleon to justify his actions and explain away the negative events as a result of those enemy’s actions
What do the pigs do
The pigs deception has worked as the animals still believe they are free when freedom is lost, the pigs take advantage of animalism to get the animals to sacrifice for the pigs benefit, their manipulation of language increases their power and luxury , they manipulate animalism rather this overthrowing it so the pigs can exploit the animals without angering them
Why is the fame being accepted for humans
The pigs are acting more like humans
Why does Orwell repeat laborious
This adjective is last seen during old majors speech explaining the rule of mr jones here it is being used again, suggesting they haven’t got anywhere
