What is synchronous communications?
Instant messaging, when sent. Phone and SMS
What is asynchronous communication?
Delayed message, such as post mail
Simplex Channel?
Transmit Data is only one direction (doorbells, radio)
Half-duplex Channel?
Transmit data in any direction, but holds priority (PC to remote)
Full-Duplux Channel?
Transmits data in both directions at the same time (two simplex channels)
What are examples of guided media transmissions?
Twisted-Pair, Coaxial, Fibre Optic
What is WiMAX?
Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access. It operates like WiFi but longer distances, with less towers.

2-5 yr process, Multi-vendor problem arrises, controlling virus and privacy difficult
What is a multiplexer?
Device that combines data from multiple sources, often saving telecom costs. Used in LD Calls
What is PBX?
Private Branch Exchange allows line sharing within firm and lowers telecom costs
What is WEP and WPA?
Wired Equivalent Privacy uses 128-bit key. Wi-Fi Protected Access is better than WEP.

An extremely strong data encryption standard and most relevant for today
