is designed as the quick fix approach, three key areas of cure, treatment and diagnosis. Looks at an individual and how quickly a health professional can treat it
Advantages of the Biomedical Model
uses medical technology
improves life expectancy
improves health of an individual
Disadvantages of the Biomedical Model
doesn’t look at the causes or prevention of the disease
doesn’t treat every disease
Advantages of the Social model
promotes good health
promotes overall wellbeing
Disadvantages of the social model
health promotion messages may be ignored
it doesn’t address health concerns for an individual

E - empowers individuals and communities
SOCIAL MODEL - S
S- intersectional collaboration : working together between different government departments
Social Model
The preventative approach to health, it addresses the broader determinants such as: economic, social, cultural and environmental. Rather than just the single disease present itself
Ottawa Charter
Is associated with the promotion of health and improving the way of life
Ottawa charter- BAD cats smell dead rats
B - build healthy public policy, any level that enforces and addresses to promote health
Ottawa Charter - bad cats smell DEAD rats
D- develop personal skills, skills and knowledge to make healthier choices and prevent obesity and overweight within the population
