Chapter 6 Flashcards
What is a sensor
Device that converts physical stimulus into more convenient form for measuring
Difference between analog and discrete sensor
Discrete:only certain values like binary or digital
Analog: continuous analog signal
Difference between active and passive sensor
Active:responds to stimulus without the need for power
Passive: requires an external source of power
What is an acuator
A hardware device that converts controller command signal change into a change in a physical parameter
3 categories of acuators
- Electric
- Pneumatic
- Hydraulic
2 main components of an electric motor
- stator: stationary component
2. rotor:
DC Motor what is a commutator
rotary switching device which rotates with the rotor and picks up current from a set of brushes that are apart of stator
3 mechanical ways to convert rotary to linear motion
- Leadscrew
- Pulley Systems
- Rack and Pinion
What is a solonoid
consists of a moveable plunger inside a stationary coil of wire
