Is the unlawful killing of a person. It is a homicide, and it involves malice of forethought and the premeditated intent to kill another human being.
Murder
Involves the deliberate and premeditated killing of another with malice of forethought.
First-degree Murder
Is not deliberate and is not premeditated; however, it is the killing of another with malice of forethought.
Second-degree Murder
Is the commission of an unintentional act that results in the death of another person. It can be either voluntary or involuntary.
Manslaughter
Is the intentional killing of another person in what is commonly referred to as the “heat of passion,” which is caused by the provocation of the victim (e.g., found having an affair with the defendant’s spouse).
Voluntary Manslaughter
Is the result of a negligent act (e.g., reckless driving).
Involuntary Manslaughter
The mistreatment or neglect of individuals who are under the care of a healthcare organization
Patient’s abuse
Prohibits certain solicitations or receipt of remuneration.
Anti-kickback Statue
Investigates violations of the Medicare and Medicaid Anti-Kickback Statute.
Office of Inspector Generals role
Is the reckless disregard for the safety of others and the willful indifference to an injury that could follow an act.
