Chapter 6 Flashcards

1
Q

What are the three sources of energy for muscle contraction?

A

Q

Direct Phosphorylation of ADP by Creatine Phosphate

A

Stored C.P. transfers phosphate to ADP to turn into ATP. Lasts for about 15 seconds with a 1:1 ratio

Q

Aerobic Respiration

A

Slower reaction in mitochondria where glucose is broken down to CO2 and H20, releasing energy. Long lasting with a 1:32 ratio

Q

Anaerobic Glycolysis and Lactic Acid formation

A

Glucose is broken down without O2 by breaking dow into pyretic acid to form 2 ATP. Not efficient but fast. Lasts about forty seconds

Q

Two Types of Muscle contractions

Q

Two Types of exercise

A

Aerobic (running, biking)
*creates endurance and stronger more flexible muscles
Resistance (weight lifting)
*stronger and bigger muscle
