Perception
the process of experiencing the world around you and making sense of what you experience.
Interpersonal perception
the process of observing and interpreting the behaviors of other people
Active perceptions
observations that occur when we are motivated to select particular information
Passive perception
observation that occur simple because our sense are in operation
selective perceptions
observation that occurs when we direct our attention to specific detail and consequently ignore other pieces of information
confirmation bias
a perceptual tendency where you attend to information that confirms what you already believe, and therefore manage to find all the evidence you need
Impression
Collections of perceptions about others that we maintain and use to interpret their behaviors
Cognitive complexity
people who do not categorize others as easily or quickly as most people
cognitive simplicity
who have very few categories for understanding others and this tends to see the world in extremes aka BAD or GOOD.

how to make sense out of stimuli by grouping and dividing information into time segments with start and end
superimposing
filling information that is not there based on assumptions
clustering
the tendency to use. a small set of traits to make inference about other traits that a person may posses .
Implicit personality theory
how we each have preconceived ideas about personality traits that come as a package deal aka once we learn a few details about someones, we infer traits that are clustered with the traits we observe.
