An in group that strongly influences begavior and social cues (EG alien abduction subculture)

What is conformity?
Maintaining behavior to conform to norms
What is groupthink? Why might it be bad?
Members arrive at decisions as a cohesive unit, which may be unwise due to poor leadership and group norms
What are the 3 types of formal organizations?
Normative, coercive, utilitarian
What is a normative organization?
A voluntary group you join to achiece a purpose (EG sorority, club)
What is a coercive organization?
An organization to completely resocialize people. EG prison, psych institutions, boot camp
What is a ultilitarian organization?
An organization you join as means to an end (college to get a job, job for $)

Organizational model with

Division of labor
Explicit rules and procedures
Full time staff
What is the purpose of bureacracies?
Better for market exonomies
What are some problems with bureacracies?
Goal displacement (regularions more detailed that they need to be), resistant to change, leaders clinging to power
