CHapter 6 Flashcards
What is learning
A change in behavior, resulting from experience.
What is classical conditioning
learned response in which a neutral object causes a response when it is associated
with something that already produces a response.
unconditioned stimulus (US)
Stimulus that is not learned
unconditioned response (UR)
Response that is not learned
conditioned stimulus (CS)
Stimulus that is learned
conditioned response (CR)
Response that is learned.
What is generalization
Learned stimuli that are similar but not identical to the conditioned stimulus
produce the conditioned response
What is discrimination
differentiates between two similar stimuli when only one of them is consistently
associated with the unconditioned stimulus.
What is operant conditioning
learning
process in which an action’s consequences determine how likely an action is to be performed in the
future
What are the different types of reinforcement
Positive
Negative
What is positive and negative punishment
Positive- addition of stimulus decrease probability behavior will be repeated
Negative- removal of stimulus decrease probability behavior will be repeated
What are the different schedules of reinforcement
partial-reinforcement extinction effect?
Fixed interval
variable interval
Fixed ratio
Variable ratio
The greater persistence of behavior under partial reinforcement than under continuous reinforcement
Who is Pavlov
a Russian physiologist. In 1904,
he won a Nobel Prize for his research on the digestive system Pavlov was interested in the
salivary reflex
Who is Watson
John Watson was one of the first researchers to demonstrate the role of
classical conditioning in the learning of phobias.
BABY ALBERT
Who is Skinner
Skinner chose the term “operant” to express the idea that animals
operate on their environments to produce effects
