Chapter 6 Flashcards
A device designed to permit flow of air or non-condensable gasses out of the vent, but stop the flow of steam.
Thermostatic vent
A steam piping line designed to maintain the fluid in a primary pipe or piping system to which it is attached at a certain uniform temp.
Steam tracer
A steam trap that utilizes a temperature sensitive device that operates on the difference in temperature between steam and condensate to open or close its discharge valve.
Thermostatic trap
A mechanical steam trap that relies on the buoyancy of steam to raise an inverted bucket to operate its discharge valve
Inverted bucket trap
A mechanical steam trap that operates on the buoyancy of a float acting in direct response to the level of condensate in the float chamber.
Ball float
An automatic device that permits condensate, air, and any other non-condensable gasses to flow out HTUs or steam piping
Steam trap
3 ways to test a trap,
- Test tee
- Testing w/ listening device
- Temperature - sensing device
