“Laws” vs “Ethics” vs “Policies”
Laws: Rules that are enforced by the state. (Ignorance of law is unacceptable)
Ethics: Moral principles that regulate social behavior.
Policies: Organizational guidelines that describe acceptable and unacceptable employee behaviors.
(Ignorance of policy is acceptable)
What are the 4 types of law?
1- Civil: laws related to private relations between members of a community rather than criminal affairs.
2- Criminal: Addresses activities that are harmful to the public.
3- Private: same as civil?
4-Public: Regulates the administration of government agencies and their relationships with other entities.
define “liability”:
Legal obligation of organization.
define “Due care” & “Due diligence”:
Due care: Taking immediate steps to protect information.
Due diligence: making sure things are done correctly.
Define the following:
1 - Privacy.
2 - Identity theft.
3 - Copyright law.
1 - the right of individuals to protect themselves from unauthorized access.
2 - stealing a victim’s identity to conduct actions/make purchases.
3 - protection for original works of authorship.
Explain the following computer crime laws:
1- USA PATRIOT Act of 2001.
2- Computer Security Act of 1987.
3- Economic Espionage Act of 1996.
4- SAFE (Security and Freedom through Encryption) Act of 1999.
1- Giving the government access to the computer activity of people to prevent terrorist acts.
2- establishing acceptable security in government computers
3- Keeping intellectual property safe by stopping the unauthorized sharing of trade secrets.
4- Provide guidance on encryption and public protection from government intervention.
