Chapter 6 Flashcards
What is activation energy or reaction rate, Ea?
The energy needed to go from reactant to the transition state.
How to change the reaction rate?
By temp or concentration. Temp mean more kinetic energy and concentration means more molecules per volume.
How can equilibrium be met?
When the rate of reaction in both are equal.
What is equilibrium constant, Keq?
When both reactions stop changing and stay at a continuous concentration. The lines do not touch.
What’s the Keq equation?
Keq = concentration of producs/ concentration of reactants. Keq = D^dC^c/B^bA^a.
What are the rules of the generic Keq formula?
Don’t count solids or liquids and lowercase is the coefficient and uppercase is the chemical.
Understanding Keq.
When Keq is above 1: numerator is bigger/favored.
When Keq is under 1: denominator is favored.
What’s Lecheler’s Principle?
When equilibrium is disturbed a new equilibrium is found.
What is Q?
The ratio of how the new equilibrium will be met. Will be smaller or bigger than Keq.
What happens after Q is under Keq?
Shift right, more P less R.
What happens after Q is over Keq?
Shift left, more R less P
