Chapter 5 TRIG Flashcards
Ray
One point on a line and all points of the line are extended in one direction
Angle
union of two rays with a common endpoint (vertex)
Initial ray of angle
fixed part of angle (doesn’t move)
Terminal ray of angle
Ray that rotates when two rays are on top of each other
what is the Measure of an angle
rotation distance from terminal and initial rays
Standard position of angle
has a vertex on the origin of the cartesian coordinate system and the initial side goes along the x-axis
Radian
the measure of a central angle of a circle (standard position) that intercepts an arc angle that’s equal in length to the radius
Arc length
”s” the length of the curve along an arc
how to find an angle formula
angle = arc length / radius (in radians)
how to find arc length formula
arc length = radius x angle (in radians)
Converting degree to radians
you put the angle measurement given over 180 degrees and reduce the fraction placing pi symbol on top
Converting radians to degrees
multiplying the numerator by 180 degrees and dividing it by the denominator
Reference angle
size of smallest acute angle formed by the terminal side of an angle and the horizontal axis (taking the given angle and subtracting the closest horizontal angle to find the reference)
Angular Velocity
w = theta divided by time, Theta is angular rotation in radians over the unit of time
Linear speed
v = arc length divided by per unit time
