Chapter 5 To 7 Flashcards
Four types of retaining walls.
Gravity walls, Cantilever Walls, Buttress Walls and Counterfort walls
3 conditions before formwork can be removed/striking
Sufficient strength to support itself
Sufficient surface hardness to resist damage
Sufficient curing to give reasonable colour finish to the concrete.
4 specific requirements of formwork
Surface finish
Ease of stripping
Good alignment
Ease of placing concrete.
Name 2 pressures acting on the retaining wall
Active pressure
Passive pressure
2 plants used to transport workers and materials
Lorry & Truck.
3 types of contracts to be used in construction project
Lump-sum contracts
Measured contract
Cost-plus contract
Three /more types of retaining wall failure mode.
Fracture, Overturning, Sliding/ Displacement, Rotating
Explain softening and ozonation in water treatment process
Softening: lime is added to remove perm and temp hardness
Ozonation: Filtered water flows to underground tanks where ozone gas is then injected into the water. The ozone in the water is supposed to act as a disinfectant for odour, taste, smell and other impurities.
3 types of culvert that could be propsed to the client
Pipe culvert, RC culvert, Brick Culvert
Name types of test for drains
Smoke test, Air/Pneumatic Test, Water test, Alignment test, Gradient Test
