Chapter 5 Review Flashcards
The constant term is the
Y intercept
How do you find the degree?
Count the number of curves and add one
How do you find the number of zeros?
Find the degree
How do you know if the leading coefficient is positive or negative?
If the graphs ends going up- positive
If the graph ends going down- negative
What is a multicuplicty?
The amount of times that answer appears
If the graph touches the x axis once, then the discriminate is
Zero
If the graph touches the x axis never, then the discriminate is
Negative
If the graph touches the x axis twice, then the discriminate is
Positive
If the graph touches the x axis more than twice, then the discriminate is
Nonexistent
A 2ed degree graph is
Quadratic
A 3ed degree graph is
Cubic
A 4th degree graph is
Quartic
A 5th degree graph is
Quintic
A 1st degree graph is
Linear
A real zero
Touches the x axis
A complex zero
Doesn’t touch the x axis
How do you turn the zeros into a polynomial?
Foil
What do you do first when dealing w simplifying equations?
Try to get things out of parenthesis (distribute to EVERYTHING)
What is the first thing to do while factoring?
Take out a common factor
Or
Get everything on the same side
An odd coefficient graph
Acts like a line, starts low and ends high, and the inverse starts high and ends low
And even coefficient graph
Acts like a parabola, it’s starts higher and ends high, unless it’s the inverse then it starts low and ends low
If an equation looks like this:
x_|b^n
Then what is it in rational exponent form?
_| is square root
b^n\x
If you have this equation: (x-8)^2
What do you do first?
Foil
