Chapter 4.1-4.5 And 9.2 Flashcards
What does an equation is standard form look like?
ax^2+bx+c
What does an equation is standard form tell you?
The Y-intercept
What does an equation is factored form look like?
y=(x+d)(x+e)
What does an equation in factored form tell you?
The x-intercepts
What does an equation is vertex form look like?
y=(x+z)^2+f
What does vertex form of an equation tell you?
The vertex
e.g. (x+5)-6
The vertex would be (-5,-6)
How can you find the x-intercepts of and equation in factored form?
Plug in zero for y
What is the quadratic formula?
x=-b+or-the square root of b^2-4ac all over 2a
What do you do to b when completing the square?
(b/2)^2
How do you convert from standard form to factored form?
You factor
How do you convert from factored form to standard form?
You F.O.I.L
How do you convert from vertex form to standard form?
You multiply it out and simplify e.g. y=(x+1)^2-4 y=(x+1) (x+1)-4 y=x^2+x+x+1-4 y=x^2+2x-3
What shape do quadratic equations make when factored?
A parabola
What does it mean when a system is inconsistent?
The two lines parallel and there is no solution
What does it mean when a system is dependent?
The equations make the same line and there are infinite solutions
