Chapter 5 - Plant Tissues Flashcards
Learn about plant tissues
(enumeration) Different types of Plant cells
Parenchyma, Collenchyma, Sclerenchyma, Vessels, Tracheids, Sieve tube members, Companion cells, Egg, Sperm
(identification) Most abundant and versatile. Storage, can change and become other cells. Alive at maturity. Primary cell wall
Parenchyma cell
(identification) Glue cells, Flexible support, found in growing shoots, stems and leaves. Primary and secondary cell wall
Collenchyma
(identification) Rigid cells, support and strengthen non extending regions of a plant. Thick and non stretchable secondary cell wall. Dead at maturity.
Sclerenchyma
(identification) energy transformation, storage and support.
Ground tissue
(identification) water and nutrient conduction system
Vascular tissue
(identification) Covering the plant body
Dermal Tissue
(identification) makes it possible to grow a new plant from a cutting
Meristems
(identification) found on the tips of roots and shoots, increase the length of a plant.
Apical Meristems
(enumeration) 3 Primary Meristems
Ground Meristems, Protoderm, Procambium.
(identification) Secondary growth. Add girth (width) by producing wood and bark.
Lateral Meristems
(identification) adds to the plant length
Intercalary meristems
(identification) Covers the organs of a plant. Outermost layer of cells.
Dermal tissue
(identification) wax Myrtle, Myrica Cerifera, Waxes obtained by boiling the leaves to make bayberry candle
Cuticle wax
(identification) outgrowth “hairs”, to keep animals away. To eliminate salt.
Trichomes
