Chapter 5: Photosynthesis Flashcards
What do plants need to photosynthesise?
Light, carbon dioxide and water
Where does photosynthesis occur?
Inside plant cells in small objects called chloroplasts, they contain a green substance called chlorophyll. This absorbs light energy needed to make photosynthesis happen
Where do plants get C02 from?
The air through their leaves, and water from the ground through their roots
Where does light energy come from?
The sun
Where is oxygen released?
Released into the air from the leaves
Where is the glucose released?
Turned into other substances, such as starch and plant oils, which can be used as an energy store. This energy can be released by respiration
Name the parts of a plant cell
Cell membrane, chloroplast, vacuole, cell wall, cytoplasm, nucleus
Word equation and symbol equation for photosynthesis
