Most useful test to establish the diagnosis of acute monoarticular arthitis
Joint aspirate study
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Morning stiffness lasting for 30 mins to 1hr that improve as the day progresses
Osteoarthritis
Shorter duration of joint stiffness but stiffness still occur during the day
PE of OA
Decrease ROm, joint line tenderness and crepitus on palpation during ROM
Treatment of choice for OA
NsAID not cox2 inhibitors
Radiographs should be obtained if:
- Px is unable to walk 4 steps
- Tenderness over the distal 6cm of the tibia or fibula including the malleoli
- There is midfoot or vesicular tenderness
- Tenderness over the proximal fifth metatarsal
Common cause of painless elbow swelling from repetitive friction of the olecranon against a firm surface
Olecranon bursitis
