Chapter 5 - Fractionated Radiation Flashcards
What are the three divisions of cell damage?
1) Lethal damage
2) Potentially lethal damage
3) Sublethal damage
What is the difference between the three cell damages?
Lethal damage
- Cell will die no matter what
Potentially lethal damage
- The cell can survive if the environment is manipulated… like going to the hospital
Sublethal damage
- Will survive unless there are more sublethal damage
What are the four “R”s of radiation therapy?
Repair
Reassortment
Repopulation
Reoxygenation
A large shoulder of the survival curve correlates with what size of alpha/Beta raito?
Small
What are the two types of brachytherapy?
Intracavitary -
Interstitial - in the tumor volume
PLD (potentially lethal damage) can be repaired with what form of radiation?
x-rays —- not neutrons
