Chapter 5: Connective Tissue Flashcards
0
Q
Bone
A
-osteocytes in lacunae
[cytes= cells]
-matrix (calcium phosphate)
-supplied by bloodstream via central canal
*only found in vertebrates bc of exoskeletons
1
Q
Cartilage
A
-chondrocytes in lacunae (spaces)
-matrix (elastic + collagen fibers)
-supplied by diffusion
>hyaline
>elastic (bendable; ear)
>fibrocartilage (not as bendable)
>calcified
2
Q
Endochondral bone
A
- starts as cartilage: aka “replacement bone”
- fish, amphibians, reptiles -keep growing
- birds, mammals -stop growing
3
Q
Intramembranous bone
A
- forms directly as bone
- often dermal, often flat (ribs, skull bones)
