Chapter 5 addendum - Type 1 and 2 errors Flashcards
When Null hypothesis is True but you reject it you get what?
Type 1 error: false positive
when null hypothesis is false but you accept it, what do you get?
Type 2 error: False Negative
What type of error do we make if we fail to find an effect on the population when there is one?
A Type 2 error
A Type 1 error is when we say
there is an effect on the population when there isn’t one.
The alpha value or significance level tells us the probability of getting what type of error?
Type 1 error
If you reject the null hypothesis, what are the two outcomes?
If null is true then you commit a type 1 error. If null is false then you’re correct.
If you don’t reject the null hypothesis, what are the two outcomes?
If null is true then you’re correct. If it is false, you commit a type 2 error.
Null hypothesis that is false but accepted
Type 2 error / false negative
null hypothesis that is true is rejected
False positive / Type 1 error
