Backing
Offers explicit info to establish reliability of warrant for claim
Qualifiers
Indicates the degree of force/strength that the arguer believes in the claim
- “in most/certain cases”
- “although there are exceptions”
- “by and large”
- “generally speaking”
Rebuttal
claim statements known as preemptive arguments that address the circumstances under which the claim may not be valid.
Relationship between grounds and claims
Grounds supports claims because the listener makes inferential leaps from claim to grounds
