What does salutary neglect mean?
Salutary neglect is an American history term that refers to the seventeenth- and eighteenth-century British Crown policy of avoiding strict enforcement of parliamentary laws meant to keep American colonies obedient to England.

Why did England place a number of taxes (acts) against the colonists?

They lowered taxes on molasses to try and convince people to stop smuggling

British officers were allowed to seize goods from smugglers without going to court… contradicts the British law of “innocent until proven guilty”

Placing taxing on almost all printed material in the colonies

Taxed imported goods before they arrived in the colonies
