Chapter 5 Flashcards
Incident Action Plan
addresses and minimizes the chances of harm by identifying and controlling the factors that might lead to FF injury or death.
Habits to improve safety - A fire officer can develop 4 simple habits to improve the safety of his or her crew:
1-Be physically fir
2-Wear seat belts
3-Practice safety through training and personal example
4-Maintain fire company integrity at emergency incidents
The NFFF summarizes the importance of physical fitness with the following recommendations that supports FF maintenance.
- Regular medical check-ups
- Regular exercise
- Eat healthy
An Incident Action plan does what?
provides a concise, coherent means of capturing and communicating the overall incident priorities, objectives and strategies in the contexts of both operational and support activities.
A single unit IAP includes basic elements
Specifies the incident objectives
- States the activities to be completed
- Covers a specific time frame, known as an operational period
IDHL
Any condition that would pose an immediate or delayed threat to life, cause irreversible adverse health effects, or interfere with an individuals ability to escape unaided from a hazardous environment.
2 in 3 out rule includes the elements
- A designated officer in charge
- 2 FF who enter the IDHL area together and remain in visual or voice contact with each other at all times, while wearing SCBA
- 2 properly equipped and trained FF who must - be positioned outside the IDHL environment - Account for the interior team - Remain capable of rescue of the interior team
Rapid Intervention Crew
A dedicated crew of FF who are assigned for rapid deployment to rescue lost or trapped members
A Personal Accountability System is needed to…
…track the identity, assignment and location of all FF operating at the incident scene.
An Accountability System typically provides the following components.
- A method to identify all personnel who are on the scene
- A method to identify personnel who are in the hazard area
- A process to account for personnel quickly when an evacuation order or unusual event occurs
- A process to ensure that personnel do not go unaccounted for an extended period of time
Risk-Benifit Analysis
is based on a hazard and situation assessment that weighs the risks involved in a particular course of action against the benefits to be gained from taking those risks.
An Incident Safety Officer
is a designated individual at the emergency scene who performs a set of duties and responsibilities that are specified in NFPA 15221 - The ISO functions as a member of the incident command staff reporting directly to the IC
-Is required to monitor the scene to identify and report hazards to the IC and if necessary to take immediate steps to stop unsafe actions and ensure that the departments safety policies are followed.
The NFFF summarizes situational awareness by specifying the following items that support the interior firefighting plan
- Work as a team
- Stay together
- Stay orientated
- Manage you air supply
- Get off the apparatus with tools and a TIC for every interior operating team
- Provide a radio for every member
- Constantly assess the risk-benifit model
The Incident Command System
is the standard organizational structure that is used to manage assigned resources so as to accomplish the stated objectives for an incident.
One of the primary responsibilities of an ISO is
is to identify hazardous situations and dangerous conditions at an emergency incident and recommend appropriate safety measures
