BOSTON TEA PARTY
(December 1773) Group of colonists in protest of the Tea Act dressed as Natives, snuck on docked boats. Dumped hundreds of chests of tea into Boston Harbor. Today worth more than 4 million dollars.

56 delegates from 12 colonies gathered in Philadelphia to discuss convincing British Parliament to return to Salutary Neglect. Rich educated men wanted reconciliation with England and all coercive acts repealed

The first military engagement of the American Revolution. 250 british soldiers and 90 colonists died. This was considered treason and an Act of War.

LORD DUNMORE’S PROCLAMATION
Virginia Royal Governor offers freedom to any enslaved man who would join the British Army. Colonists shocked their own slaves were being rallied to kill them.

Essay by Thomas Paine. Document written in a simple style that everyone could understand. Condemned the british monarchy and urged Americans to declare independence. Convinced colonists to declare independence.

First major American victory over the British Army. This success convinced France to join the war and form an allyship militarily and economically.

British finally recognized United States independence. Boundaries set out towards the Mississippi River. Promise to treat Loyalists well.
