Chapter 5 Flashcards
Types of dominance
complete, incomplete, and codominance
What type of trait in colorblindness?
X linked recessive
Complete Dominance
one trait completely over the other (normal); Mendel
incomplete dominance
heterozygotę has intermediate between the 2 homozygotes; red x white = pink
Co dominance
see both traits
example of co dominance
MN blood type
example of co dominance
cystic fibrosis
heterozygotes CFTR/cftr - has both channels (carriers)
2 types of epistasis
recessive and dominant
Recessive Epistasis
two recessive alleles mask effect at another locus
Dominant Epistasis
only one dominant allele will mask the effect at a different locus
Sex influenced
determined by autosomal genes but are expressed differently in male and females
females have to have 2 copies of the trait
males only have to have 1
Sex limited
only expressed in one sex
Cytoplasmic Inheritance
shows both traits individually and a mixed one; how to tell the difference between this and incomplete dominance
green, white, variegated
Male, females, and unknown in pedigrees
males: squares
females: circles
unknown: diamonds
how to tell if an individual is affected in a pedigree?
it’ll be colored in
