Chapter 5 Flashcards
Chemistry
What is the law of conservation of mass?
Total mass of chemicals before and after a reaction stays the same.
What is the law of conservation of energy?
Whenever a chemical reaction takes in energy or releases energy, there is no overall change in the amount of energy during the reaction.
List all 13 elements of the reactivity series from most reactive to least reactive.
Potassium, Sodium, Lithium, Calcium, Magnesium, Aluminium, Carbon, Zinc, Iron, Hydrogen, Copper, Silver, Gold
List 2 displacement reactions used in the industry.
thermite reaction, extracting metal from ore
How do you test for hydrogen, oxygen and carbon dioxide?
Hydrogen: Use a lit splint, it will make a pop sound
Oxygen: Use a glowing splint, it will relight
Carbon dioxide: Use limewater, it will become cloudy
acid+________ → ______+water
base/alkali, salt
metal + acid→ ?
salt+hydrogen
metal oxide+ acid→
salt+ water
metal carbonate + acid→
salt+ water+ carbon dioxide
acid+alkali?
salt+water
