Chapter 5 Flashcards
What does Ralph do that dictates the rest of the chapter?
He calls a meeting to remind the boys of the rules since they’re beginning to ignore them and descend into savagery.
What important thing does Simon say?
“Maybe there is a beast… Maybe it’s only us”
What does Jack think of people who believe in the beast?
He calls them “cry babies and sissies”. However he then says that he’ll hunt it down, making hunting seem more necessary for the boys.
What does Piggy think adults would do?
“They’d drink tea and discuss”
He tries to replicate the adult world on the island with failure.
How has the conch evolved over the chapters?
At first it was a symbol of power and rules. It also represented the real world and life outside of the island.
Now Jack speaks without the conch and Piggy and Simon are shouted down even when they have it.
What does Jack say about the rules?
“bollocks to the rules!”
