Chapter 5 Flashcards
What is Classical conditioning
is when a neutral stimulus becomes associated with an innately meaningful stimulus and acquires the capacity to elicit a similar response.
In classical conditioning, extinction occurs when
the unconditioned stimulus is absent.
What is Extinction
Extinction is a process that weakens or eliminates the association between the CS and the CR. When the CS no longer predicts the presence of the US, the learned response gradually diminishes. This occurs because the previously established connection between the CS and the US weakens over time due to the absence of the US.
In classical conditioning, the tendency of a new stimulus that is similar to the original conditioned stimulus to elicit a response that is similar to the conditioned response is known as
Stimulus generalization
The sudden reappearance of an extinguished response is called
spontaneous Recovery
What is a classical conditioning procedure for weakening a conditioned response by associating the fear-provoking stimulus with a new response that is incompatible with the fear.
Counterconditioning
What is a classical conditioning concept that involves the process of learning to respond to certain stimuli and not others.
discrimination
What learning occurs when a connection or an association is made between two events.
Associative
What is an unconditioned stimulus (US)?
is a stimulus that naturally and automatically triggers a response without any prior learning or conditioning.
What is operant conditioning?
Operant conditioning is a type of learning that focuses on the relationship between behaviors and their consequences. It involves the process of modifying behavior through the use of rewards and punishments, which are referred to as consequences.
What is extinction
When a previously conditioned response decreases and eventually disappears,
