Three Theories of Conflict
- Traditional - conflict is bad for business
- Interactionist - conflict is necessary - keep on toes
- Resolution Focused - conflict is not bad or good - guide employees thru conflict
Three Types of Conflict
- Task - about actual doing (functional)
- Process - about how you’re doing it (functional)
- Relationship - some people just do not get along - don’t see eye-to-eye (dysfunctional)
Creating an Ethical Organization
- High in risk tolerance - the more you allow risks & failure
- Low to moderate aggressiveness - not always trying to win (win at all cost can lead to short cuts
- Focused on means as well as outcomes - processes as well as results
Creating a Positive Organization
- Building on employee strengths - when they are good at stuff, find more opportunities to do that stuff
- Reward more than punish - spend more time praising & not criticizing; more time promoting & less time demoting
- Emphasize vitality & growth - promoting from within
