Chapter 4.8 Evaporation and transpiration Flashcards
What is the loss of water vapour from the surface of the plant leaves?
This is known as transpiration.
Where in the plant is water lost?
Water is lost through the stomata, which open to let in carbon dioxide for photosynthesis.
What do the stomata and guard cells control ?
The guard cells and stomata control gas exchange and water loss.
What is the size of the stomata and their opening and closing is controlled by?
This is controlled by the guard cells.
How does water move in the roots from the soil?
Water moves into the roots from the soil by soil.
What is the definition of stomata?
stomata. A tiny pore in a plant leaf surrounded by a pair of guard cells that regulate its opening and closure, and serves as the site for gas exchange.
What is the process of transpiration?
Transpiration is the process by which moisture is carried through plants from roots to small pores on the underside of leaves, where it changes to vapour and is released to the atmosphere.
